Sam Azzaro is on a mission to transform their passion for art into a full-time endeavor. Armed with a BFA in Painting/Sculpture and a Masters in Higher Ed. Admin, Sam seamlessly intertwines their professional duties with artistic expression. Drawing inspiration from their queerness, social justice causes, pop culture, horror, and the eerie beauty of the Midwest, Sam's work captivates with its unique perspective.
Since 2011, Sam has been actively involved in the art scene, illustrating children's novels and showcasing their pieces in statewide exhibitions. Recognized for their commitment to artistic growth, Sam served as an installation intern at the prestigious Madison Museum of Contemporary Art.
Their art has garnered attention at various exhibitions, including the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater Juried Show and the Diverse Perspectives Showcase. Notable highlights include participation in The Reading Materials Exhibition and the TransLiberation Art Coalition's Fall 2018 show.
Throughout their academic journey, Sam's art has evolved alongside their exploration of identity and social justice. Even amidst the challenges of grad school and the upheavals of the pandemic, Sam remains committed to their artistic vision, infusing their work with unapologetic authenticity and radical hope.
Amidst their artistic journey, Azzaro has actively immersed themselves in the Lawrence art scene, showcasing their talent in a multitude of exhibitions at Art Love Collective until its closure in June 2024, serving as both a represented artist and a valuable gallery assistant. Sam has strived to have a strong involvement in the local art community and beyond as they branch into the Kansas City scene.
Outside the studio, Sam finds joy in the company of loved ones, indulging in horror stories, trashy television, and video games, and playing with their rabbits, Frankie and Bowie. As they continue their career in higher education, Sam seeks to explore the profound queerness of the world through their art, embracing every opportunity for creative expression and social impact.
